The Keys To Choose The Autumn/ Winter Outfits for Men 2018

The Colors to wear in Fall and Winter for Men

For colder weather and the fall and winter seasons, take advantage of darker, richer, and deeper colors: navy, charcoal, camel, eggplant purple, forest green, burgundy, these kinds of colors.

And for spring and summer, you’d obviously be going the opposite route, with lighter colors, pastels, bright and vibrant hues.

Fabric Types – How Men Should Use Cotton and Wool

An important part of dressing for warmth is knowing what fabrics you’re wearing because many are warmer than others. The two best fabric choices for dressing in cold climates are cotton and wool.

Cotton – Cotton Fabric is not going to be as warm as wool, but it will help keep you warm. Cotton is absorbent and very durable through washing and harsh weather. Consider a cotton dress shirt as one of your bottom layers when assembling your outfit. Cotton sweaters can be worn as well, but again, they won’t be as warm as wool.

Wool – Wool Fabric is the warmest fabric choice out there, and it’s essential in cold climates. Wool sweaters come in a great variety and selection and they’ll absolutely keep you warm. Wool can be made from sheep, lamb, goat – cashmere and angora, vicuna, alpaca or camel hair. Also, if you’re going to wear an overcoat, wool is the best choice

Fall/ Winter shirt

Ok, so chambray isn’t exactly a fall- and winter-specific shirt. But! I think of them like jeans: easily worn year-round. So if you already have a favorite chambray, keep on wearing it through the winter months, if you please (I know I do).

As far as OCBDs, brands do make lighter-weight versions for spring and summer, but your standard Oxford cloth is pretty substantial and a great option for fall and winter.

I’d also consider flannel and twill shirting; both will keep you warmer during the winter months. Both casual and more formal options exist in both fabrics.

You can find more unique design hoodies to keep you warm and trendy in the time of ending the year.

Layering Your Outfit

Perhaps the most important part of dressing for climate is comfort within your different layers. You want to be warm, but you also want to be able to move. You don’t want to have so many layers on that you can’t move, but at the same time, you want to have enough to keep you warm. Finding the right balance is not too hard, but it’s very important.

Also, you want to make sure that your dress shirt and other men’s clothes that coincide with the season. Being aware of your surroundings and dressing accordingly will go a long way in how your outfit looks.

Fall/winter mid layer

Mid layers are the secret sauce of perfectly-layered wardrobes. Instead of wearing one thick, heavy coat, wear a mid layer and a jacket (or a coat that isn’t so thick and heavy).

Having two warm layers makes it easier to regulate body temperature, vs. just a shirt and a thick, heavy coat.

If it gets too warm and you only have a coat on, you’re out of luck. You basically have to take off the coat, and… that’s it. That’s all you have. With no mid-layer, you’ll get cold 4 minutes later and have to put the coat back on, and then take it off when you get warm again… it’s a vicious cycle.

From an aesthetic perspective, you can put together a more interesting look with multiple layers.

So really, sweaters and vests not only regulate body temps better, they also add extra oomph to your outfit.
Men’s Sweaters

Wearing a sweater is a great addition to an outfit, and it will also provide you with an extra layer for the cold weather. If you need to stay warm, the best way to go would be wool. It comes in many different varieties and it’ll keep you warm.

One of the most popular types of wool, especially for formal wear, is cashmere. Cashmere is a very soft and luxurious type of wool, and it is quite warm in cold climates.

There are many different patterns available when choosing a sweater, and the key when picking a pattern out if to remember that you’re going to have many layers and articles on, so making sure that the sweater compliments these things is crucial. Wearing an extremely loud, bright, or busy sweater will take attention away from the rest of your outfit.

Conservative colors that correspond with the season will allow you the best opportunity to put together a complete look. For winter, darker colors and heavier fabrics usually work best. Consider navy blues, forest greens, and browns

Men’s Overcoats and Topcoats

People confuse these two types of coats and often use them interchangeably, but they each have a specific function and purpose. A topcoat is not meant for colder climates. It is to be worn in the spring or fall as it is thinner than the overcoat. A man’s overcoat is meant to be worn over the suit and dinner jackets, and are worn outside.

When dressing up in cold weather, an overcoat is essential. It should be made of wool because it will be the warmest and most flexible, and it should be worn so the bottom reaches anywhere from 6-8 inches below the knee. This will help in keeping your legs warm. Lastly, if shopping for an overcoat, it should be a size larger than your suit jacket.
