How To Prepare Your Autumn Wardrobes in 4 Super Easy Steps

August has flown around, yet again! Can you believe how quickly summer passes every year? Just when you start to get used to planning festivals at the weekends with your friends, making spontaneous camping trips to unknown locations or going out in short dresses and heels with no worries about which bulky jacket you’ll need for when the night goes cold, July ends abruptly and August stuns us once again.

We can hope to hold on to another sunny August month, but the truth of it is, the weather will eventually start to cool down come October and you’ll need to start thinking about your Autumn wardrobes…

Getting ready for a new season yourself? Take a look at my tips on how to prepare your wardrobe for fall.

Take an inventory

Each year we all spend money on season-appropriate clothing and over time we often forget what we have. The constant turn around of our wardrobes means things get pushed to the back, never to be worn again. So before you go out and spend a fortune on new clothes for the Winter, take an inventory of what you already have. Take everything out of your wardrobe and reintroduce yourself to those items you had forgotten about.

You can figure out the answer to the below questions to make the step easy:
  1. What did you like about your style last year? What did you find challenging?
  2. What were your favorite pieces?
  3. Even if you don’t know how to change what you didn’t like about your wardrobe, what would you like to see be different?
  4. What purchases from last fall didn’t get worn? What can you learn from these mistakes?
  5. How has your body changed in the past 12 months?
  6. What is most important about your wardrobe? What do you hope it will do for you this fall?
  7. What stores worked well? What stores failed you?

Take clothes and shoes to be repaired

Although it can be tempting to rush out and browse the new season arrivals in stores I would encourage you to get existing items repaired and cleaned first. Take your shoes to a cobbler to be re-heeled and polished. You’ll be surprised how much that will improve their look. Have your clothes dry-cleaned and pressed. Most dry-cleaners will have an in-house tailor too who can repair or alter your clothes to fit you better. Alternatively, seek out a local specialist tailor to help you. A small tweak to the shape can have a big impact on your look and the cost is likely to be a fraction of a new outfit.

Identify the missing pieces

Preparing your wardrobe a new season isn’t just an opportunity to get rid of things, it is also helpful in figuring out your needs. Shopping for most women is an arduous, time-consuming process that needs to be successful. Few of us have the luxury of just shopping all the time. Therefore, it is important to go into it with a clear head and a list of needs. As you go through your closet, make note of the pieces that need to be replaced. Figure out what you may be missing to make your closet more cohesive. Write these things down, keep a list in your phone and consider doing some reconnaissance work online before you go shopping. This way when you hit the stores you will be prepared.

Lastly, consider trying to make some outfits with what is currently in your fall wardrobe to better help you identify what you might be missing from your closet. The is a surefire way to drill down what you need most.

Shop the new season

Now that you have assessed what needs replacing and where the gaps in your wardrobe are you can go shopping. Try to stick to your list and buy the best you can afford. Less is more in my opinion and I often find that my favorite pieces of clothing are timeless classics that I have worn for years. September is a great time to browse the stores or online unique and search for unique design pullovers and cool hoodies (You can find more at: Here)

Some beautiful coats and tailored dressed are also the best items. It’s the beginning of the season so availability across all sizes should still be good
